With full support of Colchester Council’s urban design officer, fourth—space developed a unique design approach to a difficult brown-field site in Marks Tey. Starting from the found Essex vernacular and the demanding Essex Design Code, fourth—space abstracted the formal and literal principles of the code to invent a new contemporary play on the local vernacular. The planning approved project consists of 32 sustainable timber frame dwellings within the site with large private gardens.
